The powerful learning environments should support the balance between self-discovery and direct instruction (De Corte, 1995). such environments should use as much as possible representative authentic, real life contexts that have personal meaning for the learners, and offer opportunities for distributed and co-operative learning through social interaction (Dochy,Segers, Bossche, & Gijbels, 2003)
